A new year of Howell TSA

Well, first off, I want to thank everyone again for re-electing me as Howell High School TSA Chapter Reporter. As I have been re-elected, this page will continue to run and be updated for at least one more year (since I have no way of knowing what will happen to it next year). This year, I have added a new resource that can be used to receive news and alerts concerning Howell TSA.

This new resource is Facebook. I have just created a Howell TSA Page on Facebook for those who want to receive updates through there. It will be run hand-in-hand along with the Twitter account to give you alerts as quickly as possible. So, if you don't have a Twitter account, but would still like to receive text alerts, you can now do so using the Facebook page, by clicking the "Subscribe via SMS" link. By subscribing that way, you will be receiving the same alerts that you would, had you been following HowellTSA on Twitter.

Also, don't forget that the YouTube Account will continue to be updated as well, and I still have some videos from nationals last year, I was planning on putting up there still, as well.

So, here's to another successful year of Howell High School TSA!

There will be a TSA meeting after school today in room B109. All state qualifiers should be in attendance. You can also consider this to be partly a "celebration meeting", so snacks will be allowed.

iPhone/iPod Touch + Cell Phone Alerts

One of the many new ways I plan to keep everyone informed is through a new social networking site called "Twitter". This is one of those site's that you go on to find out what you're friends are up to. But I am going to be using it to manage our Howell TSA cell phone alerts. However, Twitter is also now compatible with iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch, and the 2nd Generation iPod Touch. And so, this guide will show you how to configure Twitter for these devices.

The 1st step is download Twitter on your device. So first, from the main menu, select the "App Store", and tap the Search button on the bottom.

You should now be on a screen that looks somewhat similar to what you see above. From here, type "Twitter" in the search bar.

From the search results that appear, select the one called "Twitterific". From the search results that appear.

This application is entirely free, so you will be able to download it without having charge. However, you are required to have an iTunes Music Store Account in order to download Twitterific. You can make an iTunes Account by downloading the latest release of iTunes on your Mac or PC. Also, upon installation you will be prompted for your iTunes Music Store password.

After installation, press the Home button on your device, and select Twitterific.

From here, you will be asked if you have an Twitter Account, if not, you will have to create one from Twitter.com. This can also be done from your device. After that, simply go to:
Twitter.com/HowellTSA and "Follow HowellTSA". And now, you're all setup to receive alerts from Twitter on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Alerts will NOT be sent out during normal school hours.

Cell Phone Alerts

From the Twitter website, select "Settings" and click "Devices". On this page you can configure your mobile phone to receive SMS Text Message Alerts from Twitter. From this page you can also configure to have alerts disabled during certain hours of the day (though I will NOT be posting alerts during normal school hours). Also, keep in mind that standard text messaging fees may apply.

2008-2009 Howell High School TSA Chapter

Hello, everyone!

And welcome back to another year of Howell High School TSA!
As I was re-elected chapter reporter last meeting this page will continue to function, as it did last year. But I have made many changes since last year!
However, as it is a new year, everyone who was previously subscribed to the Howell TSA Newsletter was removed from the list, and the sign-in sheet from our last meeting (which took place on Tuesday, September 23, 2008) will be used to rebuild the TSA newsletter e-mail list.

I have also made many new advancements and changes to the site, newsletter, and blog since last year. First of all, there are now more ways than ever to be updated on everything going on in the Howell TSA chapter. I will be making another post here within the next few days detailing many of the new methods of staying informed.

Some of these new features include:

  • Cell Phone Alerts (alerts are deactivated during school hours)
  • New RSS feeds
  • Nintendo Wii Alerts
  • iPhone/iPod Touch Alerts
  • And more!

Also, all of the raw footage I shot from the 2008 TSA Nationals from Orlando, Florida are now viewable on our Howell TSA YouTube Channel, as previously posted. However, I am also almost finished making a highlight reel of the trip using the footage.

An archive of all the posts from last year has been made and can be viewed here.

Videos from 2008 TSA National Conference

Well, this morning the 30th Annual Technology Student Association National Conference came to a close, after the induction of the 2008-2009 National Officer Team.

It was a fun time we had in Orlando, and if you were at nationals, you know that I had my cam-corder on my person, almost at all times. And so now, anyone whom was not fortunate enough to attend the conference in Orlando can watch almost everything that had happened. And if you did go, you can relive the experience all over again!

In my time at nationals I took over 60 videos, and I am now uploading the raw footage of all these videos to the official Howell TSA YouTube Channel. Please note, that these are not very professional videos are could be considered somewhat "sloppy".

However, using this footage, I will also be making a brief highlight real of the whole conference for those whom do not care to watch all 60+ videos. I will make another post here at the time of that video's completion.

I have also bundled every video from the conference together in one playlist, which is viewable below (if this message is being viewed via the newsletter click here.

Note: At the time of this writing, the videos were all still in the process of uploading to YouTube. And so, the playlist may not function properly, or have any functionality until all videos are finished processing and are viewable on YouTube.

Also, why many jokes were made about it at the conference, I have to be a bit serious on this note. For those, whom do not wish to be visible or seen in the videos please let me know as soon as possible, so that I can censor your face out of the video. By asking to not be seen in the videos, this will result in a black box covering your face.

As of the videos' initial upload, they were given very generic titles, descriptions, etc. This was done only so that all video content could be seen as quickly as possible, though over the course of the coming weeks, they will be cleaned, better organized, updated, and censored accordingly (if necessary).

Disclaimer: Currently, none of the videos being uploaded are censored in any way shape or form. So, please be advised that some content (none of which are graphic in any way) may have slipped through. These videos will be "cleaned" in due time.
